OVERVIEW | Built 1000 years ago on a gigantic rock, this magnificent fortress rises above one of the most beautiful villages in the Aveyron region of France. The Château de Belcastel began with a 9th century chapel, and grew over the centuries as generations of knights, nobles and rogues built their legacies within the stronghold. Then the Château‘s story came to an abrupt halt in the late 16th century, when the fortress was abandoned and left to ruin.
In 1973, renowned architect Fernand Pouillon discovered what was left of the Château and decided to restore it to its former glory. He devoted eight full years of his life to rebuilding the castle, which later became his home.
Although the Château remains a private residence, its owners welcome the public to tour the fortress, which is both an historical landmark and a sprawling art gallery. The inspiration for this unique collaboration comes from Animazing Gallery in SoHo, New York. Since 1984, Animazing has famously curated inspiring collections that indulge the senses with playfulness and beauty.
