The Château de Belcastel provides a rich opportunity for French-speaking interns to reside in an historical monument in the beautiful Midi-Pyrénées region of France, close to Rodez.
This medieval castle rises above one of France’s Plus Beaux Villages, where festivals, music and fireworks light up the sky from April through October, when the chateau is open to the public. Chateau Belcastel welcomes nearly 25,000 visitors each season to enjoy an interesting historical tour and to discover a collection of art galleries within the fortress.
ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Chateau Belcastel has an accredited internship program which welcomes 3 to 4 University or post-graduate students every summer to reside in the private tower of the chateau for a minimum of ten weeks. Arrival and departure dates are flexible around high season- mid July through mid August, when interns are required to be available, as they are needed the most.. They can arrive as early as mid June and stay through mid September.
Interns work five days a week during public hours to welcome visitors, give tours and help to run all aspects of running a tourist site that promotes art and culture. They will be part of an experienced team of professionals and assist with hosting events like gallery receptions, book signings, private functions and concerts. They will have many opportunities to improve verbal and written translation skills, and interact with people from all over the world.
Interns are housed within the medieval fortress in the privatized castle keep. They will have access to common space which includes a picnic area, family living room with wi-fi, the private pool*, kitchen and laundry room. The chateau will provide transportation to and from the train station or airport in Rodez (RDZ). Weekly trips to the market and nearby town are provided, and each intern is given a 100€ stipend weekly .
The summer normally wraps up with an employee party held at the chateau with all the staff; one of the highlights of every summer at Chateau Belcastel!
Friday evenings, from 7pm to 10pm, in July and August: market in the village with regional and local specialties. Music and picnic tables for all.
Sunday morning, 9am: Mass in the historical church in the village; carillon bells at 8am. Occasional free concerts at the church.
Each year, on the third Sunday of July, a village fete takes place with a country buffet feast and fireworks. Chateau personnel receive complimentary tickets.
In the village of Belcastel there is a little shop that sells fresh bread and croissants, picnic foods, fruit and vegetables.
Possibilities for dining out include a renowned Michelin starred restaurant, a lovely little terrace cafe with an outstanding view of the castle and a nearby farm with family style supper.
Transportation is provided weekly to a nearby town for a lovely local market, with time to visit the post, the bank boulangerie, patisserie and supermarket.
The city of Rodez, about 20km from Belcastel, has a large market on Wednesdays and Saturdays and a Friday night market as well. Free concerts at the church, and local bus service.
