The first monograph by the artist, this work presents the entirety of Stéphane Couturier's work, from the Berlin construction sites to "Algiers, Climat de France", which is still in progress. His first series, Urban Archaeologies (1995-1998) and Monument(s) (1999-2002), privileged anonymous architecture and urbanism and revealed their temporal strata.

The most recent works, such as Landscaping (2001-2004), in which the artist photographs residential subdivisions in Mexico and the United States, or Melting Point - Chandigarh (2006-2007) and Melting Point - Brasilia (2007-2010), focus more on cities built ex-nihilo. With regard to this ensemble, "Algiers, Climat de France" marks both a continuity and a break. A continuity, because it focuses on an architectural and urban complex built in the 1950s by the architect Fernand Pouillon; a break, because the artist has profoundly renewed his approach and methods, mixing photography and video.
