Visiting Château de Belcastel
Since it opened to the public in 2005, visitors from all over the world have discovered the rich history of this medieval fortress. You will cross the drawbridge over the moat and dry ditch, then explore the castle itself, its atmospheric rooms and gardens, its medieval chapels and the superb views over the village of Belcastel and the Aveyron valley.
Each room takes you back into the lives of those who lived here over seven centuries. This architectural jewel is a listed historic monument that hosts a new historical, cultural or artistic exhibition every year.
To accompany you on this journey, you can choose between a leaflet, a free audio guide or a guided tour, depending on how you prefer to explore.
La Compagnie du Dauphiné has taken on the challenge of designing the scenography for the castle’s most iconic rooms.
You will discover recreated scenes of medieval daily life, such as the newly refurbished knights’ hall, the brand-new guards’ room with its soldiers, the lord of Belcastel sharing a meal with his children, a sheepfold, the recumbent effigy of the lord in the listed chapel, an icehouse stocked with provisions, and more.
“La COMPAGNIE du DAUPHINÉ”, a company specialising in high-end historical re-enactment from prehistory through to the 1950s, is based in Vienne, in the Isère region.
Since 1990, with more than 35 years devoted to “living history” through the creation, organisation and staging of historical events, La Compagnie du Dauphiné has built a strong reputation in prestigious locations and many historic towns, castles, archaeological sites and museums. They also work on historical film shoots for cinema and television, as well as private and VIP evenings for major companies.
